Choose An Electrician Who Cares
There is more to a quality installation than just making the light bulb come on. 90% of an electrician's work is unseen. In a financially driven market, it is easy to end up in a situation of accumulated errors by previous electricians, or having to have the work re-done when you go to sell your home. This is why it is wise to hire a qualified electrician who cares, instead of a someone wanting to give you a cheap price.
An electrician can ruin the structural integrity of your home in matter of hours, by boring large holes through structural members. The strength of your beams are determined by the amount of wood that remains after it has been drilled or notched. A large hole is far easier and faster to run wire through, than one which is smaller. At Blue Star Electric we limit the size of our bored holes to avoid cutting away too much cross-section of your beams.
A standard practice in the electrical industry is inserting wire into quick connects on outlets. Although this is a legal practice, these terminations are not as secure as terminating the outlet under the termination screws. The amount of current drawn by space heaters, hairdryers and kitchen equipment can cause these outlets to burn out, causing a fire or power failure. At Blue Star Electric we terminate all our outlets securely under the termination screws provided.
A large number of electrical failures and poor quality installations are due to the improper installation of boxes. There a wide number of different types of boxes available. An experienced electrician will have a working vocabulary of how these different boxes are used such that they are installed straight, flush and not overfilled. We use lasers in much of our work to locate boxes and lighting fixtures, so they are in alignment with other elements of your interior, such as tile, mirrors, windows and other fixtures.
At Blue Star Electric we don't tell people that we don't cut sheetrock, but we do provide sheetrock patching when necessary...and we contain our dust. Many electricians have gone to the use of longer drill bits, in concealed areas, to avoid this cutting and patching. This practice is unsafe because wires are usually run on the sides of these beams and they can be damaged by drilling through them. Therefore, an electrician has to inspect these beams before he drills. He cannot do this, if he cannot see the beam. At Blue Star Electric, we are experts at fishing wire in ceilings and walls without cutting holes in plaster or sheetrock, but we would rather cut a hole, than risk damaging unseen wire or plumbing. We also caulk and seal all exterior holes to prevent the entry of water and rodents.
